1 lb ground beef or pork

1 cup real bacon bits

1 onion

1 cup red wine

3 cloves garlic (pressed)

1 large carrot (grated)

2 celery sticks finely chopped

1 tbsp basil

2 tbsp oregano

4 bay leaves

1 tbsp black pepper

1/2 tsp salt

2 cups tomato sauce

1 small can tomato paste

1 large can plum tomatoes


1 lb spaghetti pasta



  1. Add meat and vegetables with spices and cook until well cooked.
  2. Add bacon bits, red wine, and tomato sauce, paste and whole tomatoes.
  3. Bring to a simmer, and stir regularly with a wooden spoon. Break up the tomatoes as you stir.
  4. Let sauce simmer on low heat while you boil water for the pasta.
  5. In salted boiling water (1 tsp salt is fine), cook pasta until ready (8-10 mins).
  6. Once pasta is cooked, drain and put back in pot. Add sauce, and combine.
  7. Serve with Parmesan cheese, and fresh basil as a garnish.
